Clerkship Opportunities

I received this tip from a fellow formerly incoming associate, and it certainly is worth posting:

"Some judges were appointed to the federal bench last week (see below), I’ve spoken to at least one of them and they are all going to need Law Clerks that can start almost immediately . . . ."

In a somewhat surprising move, the Senate approved ten more of President Bush's federal judicial nominees last Friday, September 26th. Although the Senate Judiciary Committee has, in years past, observed the Thurmond Rule, whereby nominees are not acted upon right before an upcoming presidential election, the Committee allowed ten district court judges to move out of committee and to a floor vote. Clark Waddoups of the District of Utah; Michael Anello of the Southern District of California; Mary Scriven of the Middle District of Florida; Christine Arguello and Philip Brimmer of the District of Colorado; Anthony Trenga of the Eastern District of Virginia; C. Darnell Jones, II, Mitchell Goldberg, and Joel Slomsky of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania; and Eric Melgren of the Eastern District of Kansas all received lifetime appointments.

Several circuits (e.g. the 3rd and 4th) are also in the process of hiring staff attorneys, with deadlines coming up shortly. These are 2-year clerkships.
